FK2 Civic Recieves Dry Ice Blasting & Underseal Treatment

Our latest project involved Jason’s FK2 Honda Civic, which underwent a comprehensive treatment including Dry Ice Blasting, Rust Treatment, and Undersealing. This high-performance hot hatch was already an eye-catching machine, with some beautiful custom bodywork, and our work on its underside ensured it would remain in excellent condition for years to come.

Tackling the Underbody – Plastic Trays and Minimal Underseal

Jason’s Civic arrived with numerous plastic undertrays, which we carefully removed to gain access to the full underbody. Unlike many older vehicles, the FK2 featured very little factory underseal, leaving much of the chassis vulnerable to the elements. This made it the perfect candidate for Dry Ice Blasting, followed by an extensive surface rust treatment and undersealing process.

Two Days of Intensive Dry Ice Blasting

In the process of cleaning, treating and undersealing the first step after removing the various plastic shields and undertrays, is the dry ice blasting itself. It’s only after cleaning sections of the vehicle that we can see what we have next to tackle. The following areas in this project consisted of:

  1. Wheel wells – Removing grime, debris, and some of the only sections of underseal on this vehicle, as well as early signs of corrosion.
  2. Full underbody – Stripping away years of dirt buildup and tackling surface rust.
  3. Engine bay – Cleaning delicate components without moisture or abrasive damage.
  4. Interior – Much of the interior in the civic contained red fabric and stitching. The Gentle nature of the dry ice cleaning removed the dirt without stripping the dye.

Addressing Surface Rust – A Multi-Step Approach

While Dry Ice Blasting was highly effective in removing contamination and loose rust, some areas of the underbody had more deeply ingrained corrosion. For these sections, we employed a multi-step rust treatment process:

Abrasive treatment – To mechanically remove heavier rust deposits.

Bilt Hamber Hydrate-80 – A high-quality rust converter that stabilises any remaining corrosion and prepares the surface for protection.

Full underseal application with Bilt Hamber Dynax UB – Providing a robust, long-lasting protective coating against future rust and road debris.

A Stunning Transformation – Ready to Turn Heads

With its undercarriage now fully protected, Jason’s FK2 Honda Civic is as pristine underneath as it is on the outside. Whether parked up at a car meet or tearing down the roads this summer, Jason’s Civic is sure to turn heads with its flawless exterior and meticulously maintained underbody.
